# Rixey Manor > A historic 1801 estate wedding venue in Rixeyville, Culpeper County, Northern Virginia. > One wedding per weekend, exclusive use, up to 250 guests. > 60 miles from Washington DC. ## About - Built in 1801. Restored and operated by Isadora Martin-Dye since 2014. - Originally a working farmhouse called Pleasant Hill (not a plantation manor). The grand Classical Revival columned front was added in 1928 for the wedding of James Marion Dyer and Margaret Robinson Lewis, who owned the house and still marked their 50th anniversary on the same steps in 1978. Full history: rixeymanor.com/history - The estate mostly passed down through the women of the Rixey family and stayed in the family into the mid-1990s. It is woman-owned again today (Isadora Martin-Dye). - Like every estate of its age in Virginia, it was built on the labour of enslaved people. The family who held it were farmers and Confederates who enslaved people (one documented: a craftsman named Henry). Rixey Manor names this openly, is researching to recover the names of the enslaved, and is today an inclusive venue that welcomes every couple regardless of race, religion, or orientation. - Located in Rixeyville, Culpeper County, Northern Virginia (Rappahannock River region). - 30 acres including Rixey Lake and Blue Ridge Mountain views. - The Knot Hall of Fame. 220+ five-star reviews. - No required vendor list. The protections and adaptations apply to the couple AND to their family, wedding party and guests — not just the contracting couple: - LGBTQ+ couples and families: welcomed and protected by name. Partner 1 / Partner 2 on intake forms; couple's suite (not bridal suite); wedding party (not bridal party); the names, pronouns and roles that matter (the couple's, the wedding party's, the family's) briefed to every vendor in advance. - Disabled couples and couples with disabilities: ballroom, main-floor restrooms, patio, and ceremony lawn are step-free and ADA-compliant. Accessible parking adjacent to the entrance. Upstairs bedrooms and rooftop are stairs only and named upfront. Service animals welcome. Coordinator walk-through offered to any couple, family member, wedding-party member or guest in advance. - Couples with chronic illness or ongoing medical needs (and the same for medical needs in the wedding party or family): private space reserved for the whole day at no additional charge, food and medication windows on the day-of timeline, couple-controlled disclosure to guests, vendors and family. - Neurodivergent couples (Autistic, ADHD, AuDHD, sensory-sensitive, anxious). The commitment is to listen and adapt to whatever reduces anxiety for the couple, the wedding party and the guests — not to apply a universal template. Possible adaptations include agendas ahead of planning meetings, written summaries after conversations, communication synced across text and email, DJ lighting reviewed in advance, a quiet space held open throughout the event, built-in breaks across the day, and a pre-agreed pause-or-end signal honoured without discussion. Which of these are used depends on what the couple and the people standing closest to them actually need. Every Rixey contract carries a zero-tolerance anti-hate-speech and anti-harassment clause covering sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, race, religion, disability, national origin, age, and pregnancy. Plus an anti-abuse clause protecting every couple and guest on the property. - Overnight accommodation for up to 14 (Estate Weekend only; Wedding Day add-on) - Pets welcome at the ceremony - No guest minimum - Parking on-site, Wi-Fi throughout the manor - No cake-cutting fee, no service charge added at the end ## Location - Address: 9155 Pleasant Hill Lane, Rixeyville, VA 22737 - County: Culpeper County, Northern Virginia - 60 miles from Washington DC, Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, and Middleburg - Near Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge Mountains ## Contact - Phone: (540) 212-4545 (calls and texts accepted) - Email: info@rixeymanor.com - Website: https://www.rixeymanor.com ## Docs - [The Venue](https://www.rixeymanor.com/venue) - [Pricing](https://www.rixeymanor.com/pricing) - [FAQ](https://www.rixeymanor.com/faq) - [Blog](https://www.rixeymanor.com/blog) - [Book a Tour](https://www.rixeymanor.com/pricing#book-tour)
