Rain or Shine: Indoor Wedding Options at Rixey Manor That Are Just as Magical

Let’s be honest: weather in Virginia is unpredictable. You can plan a spring wedding and still get summer heat. Or a fall wedding that suddenly turns into a surprise drizzle. And every couple thinks, “Please don’t let it rain on our wedding day.”

But here’s what we always say at Rixey Manor: a great rain plan isn’t a backup—it’s just another version of beautiful.

We don’t do “Plan B” like most venues. No dark basements. No awkward shuffle to a room that clearly wasn’t meant for a ceremony. Our indoor options were designed to be just as magical as anything outside. And sometimes, honestly? They're even better.

Our Ballroom: Light, Elegance, and Zero Compromise

Most of our indoor ceremonies take place in the ballroom—and once you step inside, you’ll see why. With floor-to-ceiling windows, sparkling chandeliers, high ceilings, and soft natural light, it’s a space that feels grand and intimate at the same time.

There’s no feeling of being shuffled indoors last minute. The ballroom is fully ADA-accessible, climate-controlled, and thoughtfully designed for year-round beauty. Whether it’s pouring outside or just too hot to be comfortable, this room never feels like a compromise. It just feels right.

The Front Porch: Classic, Cozy, and Still “Outside”

For smaller ceremonies or couples who love that fresh air feel, our front porch offers another beautiful option. It’s covered (which means you and your guests stay dry), but open enough to feel connected to the landscape.

This space is perfect for rainy day photos too—think overcast romance, glistening grounds, and just enough shelter to keep the mood cozy and the dresses dry.

Rainy Day Weddings Have Their Own Kind of Magic

Over the years, we’ve hosted plenty of rainy weddings—and we can honestly say, some of them have been our favorites. There’s something incredibly intimate about guests gathering inside, the sound of rain in the background, candlelight glowing against the windows.

Photographers love it too. Rainy portraits on the porch. Umbrella shots with your wedding party. Reflections in puddles. It’s moodier, softer, and often more emotional than a perfect blue sky.

Why a Solid Rain Plan Matters

We’ve heard from so many couples who toured other venues, only to be told that if it rains, they’d have to move to a basement or split their guests into multiple rooms. That’s not a plan—that’s a backup scramble.

At Rixey Manor, you don’t have to worry about that. Your wedding day will feel beautiful, intentional, and calm—no matter what the sky decides to do.

And unlike some venues that make you commit to a rain plan days in advance, we stay flexible. On your wedding day, we’re actively watching the radar, checking the timing, and working with your vendors to make the most informed decision possible. If there’s a window for that perfect outdoor ceremony, we’ll catch it. If not, you’re already covered with indoor spaces that feel just as magical.

So if you’re wedding planning in Virginia—plan for the rain. But don’t be afraid of it. At Rixey, we’ve got you covered. Literally.
