When to Get Married in Virginia: Every Month, Honestly Assessed
Every month in Virginia has its own character. Here is an honest assessment of each, so you can choose a date that actually makes sense for the wedding you want.

Congratulations on your engagement. After telling your family, the first thing you need to do is choose a date. The reasons are twofold: it is the first thing anyone will ask you, and you cannot move forward with planning until you have one.
As a venue, we advise couples to pick a month or two rather than a specific date first. Prices and availability vary significantly from one month to another. A caterer can book several jobs on the same day. A private venue or photographer can only do one. If you want somewhere or someone specific, flexibility on timing is key.
Every month in Virginia has its own beauty, and the right month depends on the wedding you want.
January
After the holidays, everyone is in a festive mood, well-dressed, and ready to celebrate. If you plan a New Year's Eve wedding, your guests will arrive in their best. Just make sure your venue is comfortable with late-night events. Pricing is generally moderate.
February
The month of love — and for most of it, not much else going on. Valentine's Day weekend is the obvious draw. If you are not booking that specific weekend, the end of February can be a lovely time. Your guests will appreciate the chance to come out of hibernation. Pricing is lower.
March
Virginia's snowiest month. A snow wedding is genuinely beautiful — the pictures are stunning, and on mild days an outdoor ceremony is entirely possible. During cold months, vendors are often more flexible on pricing and more attentive to your event since they have fewer of them. Blankets, furs, and heaters make for great detail shots. Pricing is lower.
April
Full bloom. Weather is usually mild and pleasant for outdoor ceremonies. This is a popular month, so vendors may charge accordingly, but the scenery earns it. Pricing is moderate.
May
Longer days, warm evenings, and everything green. Not too hot, not too cold. Even if it rains, Virginia thunderstorms in May tend to be brief and dramatic — which is not always a bad thing for photos. Fantastic sunsets. Pricing is higher.
June
One of the most popular months for a reason. Fireflies. If you have never seen Rixey at dusk in June, it is genuinely hard to describe — your guests will feel like they are standing inside a jar of stars. June also includes the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, which means more light and more time before the evening cools. Pricing is higher.
July
Long summer days and warm evenings. Weddings can start later and run later without guests getting cold. The dress code can lean more relaxed and seasonal. Just make sure you have a ballroom with air conditioning for dancing. Pricing is lower.
August
Practically speaking, a solid month for weddings. Pricing is lower, flowers are abundant, and guests with children often find it easier to travel when school is not yet back. August has a reputation — unfairly — as a lesser month. It is not. Pricing is lower.
September
Temperatures begin to cool, but demand stays high. One of Virginia's driest months, which makes outdoor ceremonies reliable. Guests without school-age children benefit from lower travel costs after the summer peak. Pricing is higher.
October
Extremely popular in Virginia, and for good reason. The color change in the Blue Ridge is something that photographs cannot fully capture. Book early. Pricing is higher.
November
Still beautiful, often underrated. The first weekend of November typically catches the last of the peak color. Thanksgiving weekend is a natural gathering point — if your family is coming together anyway, a wedding fits. Pricing is moderate.
December
Many venues are already decorated for the holidays, which can significantly reduce what you spend on décor. A practical month for a honeymoon — vacation days and cold weather align, and you have a reason to escape. Pricing is moderate.
If you are choosing a specific day of the week, Wednesday has historically been considered the luckiest day to marry. It also happens to be one of the more affordable options if budget is a factor.
